Non-Surgical Solutions
At Blair Plastic Surgery, we recognize that not everyone needs or desires a surgical solution to achieve their rejuvenation goals. Beautiful results in cosmetic enhancements begin with confidence in yourself and your goals, and confidence in the doctor you choose to make those goals a reality. Please be assured that Dr. Robert Louton possesses the necessary qualifications, training, skill and experience to make your safety his highest priority.
All About Injectables
The fastest growing segment of our practice is cosmetic injectables. Injectables are sought after by male and female, socialite or soccer mom, young, single, mature or married. The reason is simple. These treatments are easy, affordable and the results are practically instantaneous with little or no downtime.
Botox™
There is no dispute. Botox™ is effective in treating frown lines and crow’s feet.
Dr. Louton has been using Botox™ to treat muscular wrinkles for greater than 10 years. In his experienced hands, Botox™ can produce results that allow for some natural movement, yet still produces exactly the desired effect on wrinkles and furrows – almost painlessly. While there is no downtime, results are typically visible in two to three days but may take up to a week to fully develop. Results will last three to four months or more. Side effects are rare, including a mild post injection headache. But if you are like most recipients, you’ll experience a blissful break from headaches.
Botox™ is a protein that relaxes muscle. When injected into precise points in the facial muscles, Botox™ prevents the nerve reaction necessary for the injected muscles to contract. The result is not paralysis, it is the reduction in the ability to make specific facial expressions that create wrinkles and deep folds in the skin. Younger patients can halt the formation of frown lines and crow’s feet, while patient who have already developed these conditions will see varying degrees of improvement, from complete erasure to very visible softening.
Botox™ may be injected into three individual sites; between the brow (glabella), the forehead, and the crow’s feet (outer aspect of the eyes). The fee for Botox™ injections is $300 per site which is based on a standard 25 units of Botox used per site or $12 per unit.
Blair Plastic Surgery has been the premier Botox™ provider to Central Pennsylvania and is at the Platinum Provider level. This achievement allows us to offer cost saving coupons directly from Allergan, Botox™'s only manufacturer. Fillers
Temporary Fillers are used to fill wrinkles, moderate creases and depressed scars. They are also effective for plumping up lips. The lack of permanence most fillers have is truly beneficial. With aging and weight gain, the face changes too. Temporary fillers allow Dr. Louton to address the subtle shifts in facial appearance as they develop.
CosmoDerm & CosmoPlast are derived from human collagen and therefore do not require allergy testing. Anesthetic is added to minimize the pain and there is no downtime. Results last from two to three months.
Juvederm, Prevelle, Hylaform & Hylaform Plus are made of hyaluronic acid derived from rooster combs. No allergy test is required. However, alert Dr. Louton if you are allergic to any type of water fowl. Topical anesthetic is applied prior to injection. Results last two to six months.
Restylane is non-animal hyaluronic acid. No allergy testing required. Topical anesthetic is applied prior to injection. Results last four months or more. Post treatment swelling and / or bruising is expected and can last for up to a week.
The cost of these temporary fillers starts at $400 per syringe. Actual cost will depend on which agent is selected and how many syringes are required to achieve the desired results.
Partial Permanent Fillers
Put your fat to good use! Fill frown lines, crow’s feet and smile lines; provide definition to cheeks and chin; fill depressed scars. Autologous fat injections and/or fat transfer are terms used to define injectable soft-tissue augmentation using your own fat. Most commonly used in conjunction with other surgical procedures, your fat can be extracted, processed and re-injected into your lips, facial creases, or hands. There is no risk of allergy. Typically, the fat is extracted from the abdomen, buttocks or thighs through liposuction techniques. Fat transfer requires local anesthesia at a minimum, and will cause 1 to 2 weeks of mild swelling and bruising. Some of the fat will reabsorb over time, requiring additional treatments for long lasting benefits. Results can endure from several months to permanently.
The cost of harvesting and injection starts at $2000 but can be more affordable when performed in conjunction with another scheduled surgery. Call our office for more information.
Semi-Permanent Fillers
Semi-permanent fillers are used for deeper creases and wrinkles as well as sculpting the face. These fillers are ideal for use in hand rejuvenation procedures as they lessen the appearance of veins and tendons on the backs of the hands.
Radiance is calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres suspended in a polysaccharide gel. It is marketed for cosmetic use under the Radiesse™ name. Radiesse™ requires a local anesthetic or anesthetic block and can cause swelling and bruising which can last for up to two weeks after treatment. Achieved results can last years. Actual cost will depend on the amount needed to treat the desired area.

BEFORE RADIESSE AFTER RADIESSE
Permanent Fillers
Artefill™ is the first and only FDA-approved non-resorbable wrinkle filler for the correction of smile lines. First, ArteFill visibly corrects the wrinkle. Then the microspheres provide the permanent support your skin needs to correct the wrinkle and prevent further wrinkling.
ArteFill (www.artefill.com) is a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler. The secret is in its patented formula, which contains 20% ArteFill Precision-Filtered Microspheres™ (made of PMMA, the same material used for dozens of medical implants over the last 50 years) and 80% ArteFill Purified Bovine Collagen™ gel with lidocaine, an anesthetic. Where the results of temporary fillers end, the enduring benefits of ArteFill continue and are considered permanent.
Discussion with our plastic surgeons regarding this and other filler material is essential for selecting the best options for your particular problem areas.

Sclerotherapy
Get ready for skirt or tennis season with great looking legs!
Sclerotherapy is still the treatment of choice for the removal of spider veins (red or blue, broken blood vessels) on the legs that are predominantly of cosmetic concern. While multiple lasers are available for treatment of leg veins, they are extremely limited in use as they are only used successfully for the finest of leg veins, a size so small they rarely cause cosmetic concern. Larger veins require multiple treatments at higher energy levels, which increase the risk of bruising and scarring. The best course of action is to treat veins first with sclerotherapy and clean up the very fine veins that are left with a laser for leg veins.
Sclerotherapy treatments for spider veins involves injecting a solution directly into the vein, causing it to close or collapse and then be absorbed by the body. Visible fading can be expected about two weeks after the first treatment and continued improvement can be seen up to 12 weeks after a sclerotherapy session. There may be slight burning or stinging with each injection and possibly some minor bruising, swelling or redness, which dissipates after a few days. After treatment, you will need to wear compression stockings. Plan to purchase these at your local drug store prior to your visit.
Large, painful veins require stripping, or other more surgical solutions. Varicose veins are less effectively treated with sclerotherapy.

Diolite 532 Vascular Laser is the treatment of choice to eliminate superficial facial spider veins, the small red broken veins often seen on nose and cheeks of individuals suffering with rosacea or individuals with history of extensive sun damage to those areas. While the Diolite is not for use on leg veins, it is excellent for removing cherry angiomas (raised red mole-like lesions) and small brown spots such as freckles, sun spots and pigmented keratoses found anywhere on the body. The treatment is precise and non-traumatic to the surrounding tissue leaving virtually no scar.
Starlux Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a uniquely versatile system that has become one of the most popular and effective systems for the rejuvenation of sun-damaged skin. In less than 30 minutes, obtain more youthful and revitalized skin by reducing fine lines, blemishes, and broken blood vessels; fading freckles and age spots; smoothing rough skin; and reducing pore size while improving skin tone and elasticity. Though technically not a laser, IPL is based on similar physics principles. During treatments, a broad spectrum of light penetrates the skin without removing it, so there is minimal discomfort and minimal to no downtime. One to six treatments spaced one week to two months apart are needed depending on your condition. Neck, décolleté, arms and hands can also be treated with similar benefits.
Erbium Resurfacing Laser is an ablative laser used to specifically resurface the skin and remove superficial and deep wrinkles, especially the radial wrinkles around the mouth. The energy of the laser also stimulates collagen production and improves overall skin tone and texture, and can also be of benefit for the removal of superficial pre-cancerous skin lesions. The erbium laser produces dramatic results in just one treatment but is considered a surgical procedure, as it requires anesthesia and healing time. A consultation with Dr. Robert Louton is necessary to determine whether you are a candidate for this type of treatment.
