Liposuction Followup Care

Serving Hollidaysburg, State College, Johnstown, DuBois, and Nearby Pennsylvania

Liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires patients to commit to the steps involved during the healing process. After liposuction, you should follow all of Dr. Louton’s followup care instructions very carefully. This way, you can reduce healing time and ensure that your treatment area heals properly.

Do not worry about remembering any of these instructions; Dr. Louton and his staff will go over the process several times and provide you with literature to make sure you are fully prepared to handle self-care after surgery. If you have quesitons, please don't hesitate to call 800-833-3888.

What to Expect During Liposuction Recovery

Swelling of skin at the treatment site is normal and can last from one to two months. Some bruising is also expected and should subside in about one to two weeks. Liposuction patients are asked to wear a special elastic compression garment, much like workout wear, for one month following surgery. This garment will work to reduce swelling, encourage smooth contours, and help skin shrink snugly around the new proportions.

Most patients are able to return to work in about one week. If you have a physically demanding job, you may be asked to wait a bit longer. Dr. Louton recommends you avoid strenuous activities for up to one month.

Your Liposuction Results

Many patients wonder if liposuction results are permanent. Dr. Louton will explain to you that liposuction does result in permanent reduction of fat in the area treated. However, if you gain a significant amount of weight overall, the treated area will get larger proportionately.

The key to keeping extra weight from negatively affecting the progress you have made with liposuction will involve discipline on your part. You should commit to regular exercise, stretching, and eating right in order to maintain your results. Our body contouring staff can give you some helpful suggestions on long-term weight-management success.

Additional Surgeries

After you have healed completely and you are able to appreciate how liposuction has helped improve your shape, you may feel that an additional procedure would be beneficial in fine-tuning your new look and tightening the skin. There are many options available in the area of body contouring, including:
