Before Your Tummy Tuck

The very first step is to schedule a confidential, thorough plastic surgery consultation with Dr. Louton. During this time, Dr. Louton will go through the details of surgery in a clear and direct format. You will be given literature on the procedure and encouraged to share your thoughts and concerns.

You will also have a health evaluation and be able to discuss your body contouring goals. Once Dr. Louton determines that you are a good candidate for surgery and you agree that this is the best course of treatment, we will go ahead and set you up with a surgery date and time.

During the Tummy Tuck Surgery

Your tummy tuck surgery will last anywhere from two to five hours, depending on the amount of tightening needed. Dr. Louton will administer anesthesia and prepare you for surgery. An incision will be made around the belly button and extended across the lower belly. Dr. Louton then gently loosens the skin around the belly button and exposes the muscle tissue. The muscles are tightened using sutures, followed by the removal of any excess skin.

Some patients may choose to add in a liposuction procedure for the removal of excess fat. The area is bandaged and you are released to a friend or family member. Dr. Louton will prescribe important medications to minimize discomfort, and you will receive a pain pump to help make you more comfortable in the days immediately following surgery.

The Tummy Tuck Healing Process

Your activities will be restricted for several weeks following surgery, and you should be able to enjoy the full results within a few months. There will be a noticeable scar in the lower abdomen that should fade over time. Remember that a balanced diet and regular exercise is the key to keeping your stomach in good shape.
