Ear reshaping, also known as otoplasty, can be a miracle procedure for people who have dealt with the confidence-shattering effects of misshapen or overly large ears. If you have cartilage that is malformed, size issues, protruding ears, or other flaws in one or both ears, you may be a great candidate for the ear reshaping procedure.

Pennsylvania plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Louton performs otoplasty on adults and children who meet the requirements for surgery (children should be over the age of 5). Please contact Blair Plastic Surgery today by calling 800-833-3888 to find out if you are a candidate for ear reshaping surgery.

The Cost of Ear Reshaping

The fees for this surgical procedure will depend on a variety of factors, including:

  • Technique used
  • Amount of reshaping needed
  • Size or position

Many of our patients discover that ear reshaping is often covered under major medical plans, although individual plans can vary greatly. Please check with your provider to see if they offer any benefits for this procedure. If you would like to check out our alternative payment plans, please visit our plastic surgery financing page.

The Otoplasty Procedure

During a two to three hour outpatient procedure, Dr. Louton will gently manipulate your skin and cartilage to reach the ideal ear appearance. An incision is made behind the ear, carefully concealing any scars.

Once Dr. Louton exposes the cartilage, he can sculpt the tissue to the desired shape and remove tissue if a smaller size is desired. After surgery, the ears will be bandaged and you will be asked to follow a set of instructions for the healing process. For instance, a protective headband should be worn for several days following surgery.

Some numbness and bruising is to be expected, and the ears will heal over the next two to six weeks. Please stick to the activity schedule Dr. Louton provides to ensure proper healing.
