Thanks to recent advances in breast surgery technology, women have many options when it comes to enhancing their breast appearance. Breast enlargement offers a permanent solution to small, underdeveloped, or asymmetrical breasts. Pennsylvania plastic surgeon Dr. Robert Louton helps his patients bring balance to their bust form and achieve optimal proportion goals. Breast implants are especially popular with women who have developed sagging and volume loss due to pregnancy and breastfeeding.
If you have ever imagined a fuller breast appearance, the team at Blair Plastic Surgery can help you achieve that ideal breast size and contour. Please call us today at 800-833-3888 to schedule your consultation.
What to Expect During Your Breast Augmentation Consultation
At your consultation appointment, you will have a chance to discuss your breast augmentation goals and review multiple before-and-after photos. Dr. Louton will address all of your questions and concerns, present the risks and benefits of the procedure, and address factors such as incision location and implant placement.
For incision location, you can choose from periareolar (around the nipple – the most common) or inframammary (in the breast fold). For implant placement, the submuscular (under the muscle) option is far more common than the sub-glandular (over the muscle) option.
You will also have the opportunity to learn about the pros and cons of choosing between saline and silicone implants. Your body type will dictate the options that will be most appropriate for you. Therefore, these decisions are best done after a physical examination and a thorough discussion with Dr. Louton.
Your Breast Enlargement Surgery
Breast augmentation is the most popular outpatient procedure performed in our private, fully-licensed surgical suite. Dr. Louton performs about four of these operations per week. General anesthesia is used most often, but other forms of sedation are available on request. The cost of anesthesia is included in the total procedure fee.
The surgery will take from 1 to 2 hours and when you wake up, you will be in a post-operative bra and kept in our comfortable recovery room until you feel ready to go home and meet discharge criteria. Your chest will be numb from a non-narcotic injection that is administered during surgery and included in the total surgical fee. This long-lasting medication will keep you comfortable for 72-96 hours following surgery. Drains may be placed also and removed at your first postoperative visit 48 hours after surgery.
You should be up and around the day of surgery, but you will need a responsible adult to care for you and monitor your condition for at least 24 hours after they drive you home. Most of our breast surgery patients are back to work in one week and can resume normal activity after two weeks of downtime.
