Choices for Spider Vein Removal
Blair Plastic Surgery offers two options for the treatment of spider veins on the legs:
- Sclerotherapy with injectables
- Laser treatments with the Lumenis Nd:Yag 1064 laser
Sclerotherapy is still the treatment of choice for the removal of spider veins, red or blue broken blood vessels on the legs. Because laser vein treatments are most effective on fine spider veins on the legs, the
best course of action is to first treat larger veins with sclerotherapy, followed by a clean-up session to the remaining smaller veins with our vascular laser.
Typically, spider veins tend to occur in women over age 30, although men and younger patients can also experience them.

Sclerotherapy treatments for spider veins involve injecting a solution directly into the vein after an anesthetic is applied, causing the vein to close or collapse and then be absorbed by the body.

Your Vascular Laser Treatment
The longer wavelength of light and pulsing characteristics of the system allow the energy to be virtually invisible to the epidermal melanin, thus protecting the skin and allowing treatment of all skin types and tanned skin. Normally only a few pulses of the laser are required to achieve complete closure and sealing of the vessels.
Once the vessels are sealed, the body will gradually remove them and their appearance will be lightened or diminished altogether. Treating blood vessels in this manner may require more than one treatment in order to fully seal the blood vessel, but some blood vessels will seal with just one treatment.
